Benoît Violier, du cœur aux étoiles takes shape in the space between absence and memory. Published by Glénat in the year marking the tenth anniversary of the chef’s death, Brigitte Violier’s autobiographical account returns to the life they built together: their family, their years at the Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville in Crissier and the daily reality behind a career lived at the highest level. She tells his story from the most intimate point of view – that of the woman who knew the man before the world celebrated the chef.
On 31 January 2016, Benoît Violier died suddenly at the age of 44. The restaurant he ran with Brigitte held three Michelin stars and had recently been placed first in La Liste, the global ranking compiled from guides and reviews across the world. His career appeared to have reached its summit without the usual machinery of expansion: no restaurant empire, no television persona, only Crissier, his family, nature, hunting and a restaurant pursued with an uncompromising desire for perfection. His death left the culinary world facing a question to which the book does not claim to provide a definitive answer.
Brigitte Violier writes instead from what she knew: a life built side by side, decisions made together, difficulties endured and a future imagined by two people. She does not conceal the continuous work or the sacrifices demanded by a gastronomic world capable of inspiring dreams while exacting a considerable price from those who seek its highest recognition. The portrait gradually emerges through their shared history and through the recipes that marked it – dishes she began cooking again as a way of returning to the man behind the public figure.
The book was released on 22 August, Benoît Violier’s birthday. Brigitte Violier announced it on Instagram through words addressed directly to her husband, writing about the place he continues to occupy, the void left by his departure and their son Romain, in whose gaze she still recognises something of his father. The publication reads less like a conventional book announcement than a private letter momentarily opened to others. Through it, Benoît Violier, du cœur aux étoiles becomes a work of memory and transmission, asking what remains when service ends, the dining room falls silent and the stars are no longer enough to tell a life.

Since then, our journey has taken shape in our own image. I like to believe that experiences are meant to be shared, and I have made this the guiding principle of my professional life.
